Who can enroll?
The Texas Event Leadership Program (TELP) is open to all festival, fair, and event organizers and volunteers who wish to network with others while learning to produce festivals, fairs, and events. Everyone is welcome!
What is the Texas Event Leadership Program?
Texas Event Leadership Program (TELP) is a program directed by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service in the Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences at Texas A&M University. Together with Texas Festivals and Events Association (TFEA) and Texas Association of Fairs and Events (TAF&E), our program provides in-depth and relevant training for event organizers throughout the State of Texas. The purpose of the program is to support thousands of communities and organizations across Texas that stage festivals, fairs, and events for the betterment of their community.
What is gained from completing the program?
The program gives you the chance to diversify your knowledge and skills while networking with others in the event industry. A certificate of completion from the Texas Event Leadership Program can be applied towards professional certification with Texas Association of Fairs and Events (TAF&E) and/or Texas Festivals and Events Association (TFEA). International certification can be obtained through International Festivals and Events Association (IFEA). Each organization will have additional requirements.
How is the program structured?
The curriculim was developed by a panel of Texas event executives, volunteers, and faculty from the Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences at Texas A&M University. The Texas Event Leadership Program is a combination of instructional modules, volunteer service, and an individual assignment. The curriculum is comprised of 25 core modules and various elective modules. An instructional module is a subset of information relating to event management taught in a 1.5 hour session.
How can I participate in the Texas Event Leadership Program?
TELP participants move through the program at their own pace. There are two ways to participate in the Texas Event Leaderhip Program.
- Participants may attend TELP sessions without enrolling in the certificate program. This involves registering for conferences and/or workshops and attending TELP sessions as desired.
- For participants who elect to complete the certificate program, requirements include completion of 25 core modules, 3 elective modules, volunteer service, and submission of a written business plan. A plaque and certificate of completion will be awarded once all requirements have been met.
