Sarah Stehn
Michigan Technological University, Masters

Thesis Topic:
Investigating the effects of acid deposition on plant community composition and distribution in high-elevation spruce-fir forests of the southern Appalachians.

Short Bio:
Having grown up in Alaska, on the edge of a half-million acre state park, Sarah Stehn is no stranger to wilderness.  Her appreciation of wildlands led her to leave Alaska however, and search out other protected areas in the lower 48.  Amidst her explorations, she attained a B.S. in Earth Science from Montana State University.  After 4 years working seasonally for the National Park Service on a variety of vegetation management projects all across the west, she decided it was time to try to manage and
invent a project of her own.  Sarah is currently a Master's student in Forest Ecology & Management at Michigan Technological University, and happy to be exploring two more ecoregions, the northern hardwoods of Lake Superior, and the southern Appalachians, site of her research.  In the future she hopes to continue to work for the National Park Service or other land management agency, but most importantly, she hopes to keep exploring."
