Management and Visitor Perceptions of Crowding in Three Designated Wilderness Areas in Georgia.

Short Bio:
Ryan Sharp is a second year Ph.D. student in the Natural Resource Recreation and Tourism department at the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia.  His dissertation will be focusing on visitor perceptions of federally designated Wilderness areas in the southeast.  Ryan is also working on developing a Wilderness interpretive trail using i-Pod technology on Cumberland Island National Seashore.  When he has free time, he is working towards his goal of visiting all the NPS sites across the county.

Research Interests
  • Looking at how wilderness in America can be managed for Recreation AND Conservation.
  • Understanding how visitors perceive wilderness.
Work Experience
  • Graduate Assistant for Georgia Outdoor Recreation at UGA.
  • Working with Cumberland Island National Seashore to develop an interpretive trail using MP3 technology.
