Comparing people's knowledge of and attitudes toward nuisance black bears in the US and Japan.

Short Bio:
Ryo Sakurai has graduated from Keio University, Tokyo in Japan in March 2007 and obtained a Bachelor degree of Law. During his undergraduate days, he has participated in various wildlife conservation activities all over Japan, including conservation survey of wild bears at Karuizawa in Nagano, when he was a sophomore. In August 2007, he began his graduate work, as an Ambassadorial Scholar of Rotary Club, in the School of Natural Resources and, Environment with the Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at the University of Florida. He has gained, so far, straight A for grades of all the courses he took in the graduate school. His works, *Considering the introduction of the wolf ( Canis lupus) as a national barometer of environmental consciousness: A model comparison of European, American and Japanese cases* (2007) and *Save the armadillos: They are symbol of a rich
and special tropical environment* (2007) were published respectively in *Studies in Politics-Faculty of Law *of Keio University, and in *The Gainesville Sun* in Florida

Research Interests
  • Human dimensions of wildlife management. Especially public knowledge of and attitudes toward conservation.
Work Experience
  • An internship for a half year at a small company that collects and recycles bulky refuses.
