Multi Stakeholder Approaches to Conservation Planning: A look at Integrated Water Resources Management in the New York City Watershed

Short Bio:
Amy Han is a dual Masters Degree candidate studying International Affairs at American University in Washington, DC and Natural Resources and Sustainable Development at the University for Peace in Costa Rica.  In the past year, she assisted a Nicaraguan non-government organization (NGO) with the communication and marketing planning of their eco-stove operations as part of their reforestation initiative.  Her other field work includes water and sanitation workshops to youth and fundraising for a school organic gardening program.  Prior to her studies, she worked as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Uzbekistan and taught English in South Korea.   Amy's research interests include payment for environmental service schemes in sustainable watershed and land conservation policies.  Amy holds a B.S. in Communication from Cornell University and lives in New York City.

Research Interests
  • Systems-theory based participatory planning in health and conservation projects.
Work Experience
  • Amy's recent work was in assisting a Nicaraguan non-government organization with the communication and outreach initiatives of their wood-burning eco-stoves as part of their reforestation project. Her other field work involved integration of health and natural resource themes such as solar energy and water workshops to organic agriculture and nutrition.
  • Lesson Planning: Amy is exploring interdisciplinary approaches to conservation such as the perspective of human health in ecosystem studies in her current research.
Special Interests and Extra Curricular Activities
  • Encountering new cultures, cooking, hiking, singing, spending time with friends, salsa dancing, and practicing my Spanish.
