Thesis Topic:
Water, Weather, and Site Formation Processes at Kipp Ruin, Deming, NM

Short Bio:
I graduated with honors from Sonora High School in La Habra, CA in 2000.  I moved to Indiana to study archaeology at the University of Indianapolis, and graduated with a double major in archaeology and anthropology.  My graduate education continues at New Mexico State University where I am studying site formation processes at the multicomponent Kipp Ruin site.  My interests include museum studies, interpretation of historic sites for the public, soil morphology, and the interaction between humans and their environment.

Research Interests
  • Agency Theory, particularly when viewing water as a social actor.  The interaction between prehistoric people and the landscape that surrounds them, including fluctuations in settlement patterns.  The creative use of GIS to help solve archaeological and cultural resource management problems.
Work Experience
  • I have extensive research experience as a previous research assistant to Dr. Greg Reinhardt at the University of Indianapolis and as a graduate assistant to Drs. Beth O'Leary and William Walker at NMSU.  I worked to help raise awareness of the need to preserve the archaeology of the Cold War, especially in space, with Dr. O'Leary and the staff of the New Mexico Museum of Space History.  At the University Museum at NMSU, I was the Public Programs Coordinator, conducting hands-on workshops for the public that explained museum exhibits.  I have also worked for Statistical Research, Inc. as an archaeological technician at the Playa Vista site in California. I was a crew chief for the most recent La Frontera Archaeological Field School held outside Deming, NM.
Presentations
  • Water, Weather and Late Prehistoric Settlement in Luna County. Paper presented at the 15th Biennial Jornada Mogollon Conference, El Paso Museum of Archaeology. October, 2007.
  • The Cultural Heritage on the Moon. Presented with Dr. Beth O'Leary for International Astronomy Day at the New Mexico Museum of Space History in Alamogordo, NM. May, 2006.
Special Interests and Extra Curricular Activities
  • Special interests include the archaeology of the Cold War, the interaction between museums and Native American groups, and conservation theory.   I also love to hike, watch movies, and live with three house rabbits.
