Research Literature for Park Break 2008
Delaware Water Gap: Conservation Policy

CONSERVATION POLICY refers to the entire spectrum of issues that affect how conservation is carried out in parks and other protected areas. Today, park managers must have a grasp of wide range issues to effectively do their jobs. They must be familiar with not only scientific and scholarly understandings of park resources, but of the political climate within which resource decisions must be made.

To understand conservation policy, one must know:

  1. The key points of conservation history that brought us to where we are,

  2. The major resource issues facing parks today, and

  3. How to political system works with respect to conservation decision-making.
